Thanks to the more than 130 members, supporters and friends who gathered on January 18 to celebrate the 2nd Anniversary of DC Women in Politics.  It was a great opportunity to share our success stories and early support for the women candidates, discuss the issues facing women in DC, and recognize the newly elected officials.

Congratulations to At-Large Councilmember Elissa Silverman and Councilmember Brianne Nadeau (Ward 1), both graduates of DCWIP’s Campaign School. We were also pleased to have several of Mayor Bowser’s appointees join us at the event including Polly Donaldson, Director of Housing and Community Development; Kim Bassett, Director of the Office of Women’s Policy; David Do, Director of the Office of Asian Affairs; and Franklin Garcia, Shadow Representative, a strong supporter of DC Women in Politics who also hosted a discussion about DC Statehood.

The audience also discussed plans to schedule conversations with female candidates running for City Council seats in Ward 4 and Ward 8 in the special election that will be held on April 28, 2015.

Finally, I want to extend heartfelt cheers and kudos to the DCWIP Planning Committee including Vera Clayborne, Willi Delaney, Lillian Perdomo, and Lorraine Wilson for hosting such a wonderful January 18 event.

Thank you all for your continued support.

Best Regards,

Anita B. Shelton
DCWIP President
