Deirdre Brown is a 3rd generation Washingtonian and has worked in the real estate industry for over 20 years as a Realtor and as a title company owner. As a member of the District of Columbia’s Association of Realtors (DCAR), she served as the Chair of its Public Policy Committee, as a member of DCAR’s  Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs Task Force, and is currently serving on DCAR’s Affordable Housing Task Force. In this role, Deirdre has advocated to the Council and testified in hearings on policies that impact housing. As a Realtor, she has helped working families and single mothers navigate home buying. She believes that education is the key to homeownership. As a result, she presents at free home buying workshops once a month. 

Deirdre has served as ANC Commissioner in 3F04, where she met with seniors, families, and business owners. She gained perspective and insight on the environmental issues affecting Ward 3. As an ANC appointee to Mayor Bowser’s Homicide Elimination Task Force she gained the experience needed to develop solutions to public safety concerns.

Deirdre received her Juris Doctor from the University of the District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law. Deirdre’s passion for advocacy was developed and shaped by the 727 law clinic hours she worked advocating for residents. She represented tenants in the Landlord and Tenant Court of the Superior Court under the Law Students in Court Program and represented parents in the Family Court of the Superior Court and she delivered an oral argument before the DC Court of Appeals on a family court matter. She also worked on deportation defense cases for detainees before the Board of Immigration Appeal. In law school, she also interned for two Superior Court judges and the Office of  Administrative Hearings Rental Housing Division. 

She currently lives in the Palisades and has five children, all of whom attended and/or attend public and independent schools in the City. Over the past 23 years, Deirdre has made time to be involved in the school community and the PTA. Having a child who is on the Autism Spectrum, Deirdre understands the difficulty families face while trying to obtain appropriate public education through the IEP process. She believes and knows that we can do better in supporting parents and their kids as they navigate a pivotal time in their child’s life.
