Ward 3 Member of the DC Council Candidate

I’ve been a successful leader and advocate for my neighborhood and beyond for years and I want to bring my inclusive, civic activist approach to the entire Ward. Together, we can help every neighborhood in Ward 3 be the livable community every neighborhood desires.

I first got involved in the Ward 3 community as a parent, not a politician. As a mom of students in DC public and charter schools, I learned that school involvement is the gateway to making our communities the best they can be. I took that involvement to the next level by leading the Palisades Community Association (PCA) of 1,800 members. I learn, listen, and build coalitions around issues affecting Ward 3.

As a Councilmember, I will put a special emphasis on women’s issues. As one of the few female candidates in a race dominated by men, I am acutely aware of the lack of interest many politicians have in crafting legislation specifically to support women.

Writing and implementing such policy is my passion.

I strongly support investing any surplus in the Paid Family Medical Leave Fund into benefit expansions. Additionally, I am in favor of making PFML benefits portable. This would fix one of the shortcomings of the current law and ensure that Mothers have access to these life-changing benefits even when they are in-between jobs.

I am also focused on reducing the maternal mortality rate in DC, which is among the worst in the nation. We need to improve access to quality prenatal care for all residents, especially Women of Color who have been historically underserved.  As a Councilmember, I will explore every available policy option that could protect women before, during, and after the birth of their children.
